Keeping up with post

Haven't been posting much lately, I have been really busy with spinning dog hair/cat hair and alpacca plus working all week. AND retirement is coming in a month so hopefully I can do better at posting. This is a picture of a dog hair heart I made with a hanger. A nice little momento of your pet!
Have been getting lots of requests to spin dog and cat hair. I wrote an article for an on line magazine called For the Love of Yarn and another called Fiberfemmes and it was the best thing I could have ever done because people are searching on the web and finding it and contacting me.

This blanket was crocheted from a Huskey.

Spinning Dog Hair

My old web site will be going away as I retire at the end of July, 2008. I would like to offer my services to spinning dog hair for anyone. I also can spin your dog hair and make a hanging keepsake heart for you to cherrish forever. I make these for 8.00, I spin a gallon size resealable bag for 10 for anyone wishing to have their dog hair spun. You can email me at spinninglady@roadrunner.com for more information.

Winter has been slow, have mostly been spinning alpacca for someone in China, Maine. I have re cently received a couple of opportunites to spin dog hair. Always busy. I'm getting very excited about to be retiring at the end of July this year (early!) and can't wait to use my time to do what I love.

Here I go again, haven't posted for a long time.

Busy, busy all the time. The first picture is my lovely cubicle at work showing my knitting board and a scarf I was making for a scarf swop I participated in. The scarf I made went to MO. We had to send little goodies with it. I can't tell yet what I sent. My scarf is coming from Mexico, I can't wait. I have been spinning yarn, washing wool, knitting on knitting boards, learning to make penny rugs and such. Inquiring about retiring from State Government. Yahoo, less than one more year. These are some of the felted items I have been making. The first is a little sewing needle holder and then the sizzor holder to match.
So for now I am trying to make items for a craft table I have rented for December 1. My wonderful girlfriend June is going to share the table with me and keep me company!

More Socks!

I have having a blast with the knitting loom, these are socks that I finished with my own hand spun yarn on the loom. Some day I'll make a pair for myself. These were for a good friend at work.

Now I'm trying a pair with the self striping yarn and its working.

Believe it or not I have another huge load of Dorset Sheep wool. I haven't even used up what I had from last year yet. Lots of washing and carding and spinning to do!

Too many things to do! I have too many things going. A baby blanket (plus need to do a hat and booties), a pair of socks, a fun fur purse done on rug canvas, a wall hanging done with my hand spun yarn like the ones that are done with strips of wool. Will have to post a picture when I am done. Oh yeah and a rug done on a rug loom with wool yarn.

My angora bunnies are doing great, I'm waiting for our Maine crazy weather to be Spring. Its time to brush and clip them. They are huge.

Have a great day!

Long Time no Post

Its been months, time just flew. Christmas, orders for this and that!

I've been working with the knifty knitters and the long looms. I've been making dog hair hats and mittens. I have a wonderful person who is a groomer in Massachusetts that doesn't know me from a hole in my head and she save me doggy fuzz.

I've been making socks from my spun yarn on my sock loom. Above is a picture of the last socks. The white is lambs wool and I forgot what the dark brown was. I spun the colors seperate and then plyed them to get a varigated yarn.

Finally Done And...

Finally got all the wool washed and my husband carded it all for me! Now to get some dye. But not until I'm ready for the craft sale in November. Working daily on items for that and then maybe a few items for the grand kids and someday I do something for me! I crochet, spin, knifty knit and love to read. Hard to get them all in!

Got to get that digital camera out and take some pictures of the items I'm making. I'm making a wonderfully thick lap ghan for a friend at work out of my spun wool. Another thing I want for myself sometime.

Its not fair to have to work, you just don't have enough time to do the things you enjoy.

Long time no Post

Things get so busy I forget to post. I finally have gotten down to 3/4 of a bag of wool left. Feels like I have been washing it for a year! Now to spin it and dye it!

I'm having a ball making hats with the green knifty knitter, will have to take some pictures. I've been using alot of novelty yarn along with black yarn and they are coming out awesome. Right now I'm working on a real funky one. Black yarn, curled brim, and then this novelty yarn that has burst of fuzzy colors and then these paper stems sticking out like party streamers.

I have a table reserved for a craft sale on November 11 so I'm trying to work up some items for that.

I had a toddler sweater pattern published in a booklet that Karenscraftsupplies.com put together. I got my personal copy a few days ago. That was exciting. I wrote an article for fiberfemmes.com for their October/November issue coming out on spinning dog hair. Some day to not have to work will be wonderful. I do all these things I don't have time to do!

Till next time,

Kathy

Baa Baa Black Sheep, Have You Any Wool!

Oh my, I have more than enough wool for the winter. It took me a week to skirt (discard the poopy parts) it. Now I'm doing the washing and the washing and the washing. My husband is actually helping me card it so its ready for spinning. I'm going to my nephew's wedding this week so the washing will have to wait for a few days. Can I do it while I sleep? I wish. If someone ever tells you that you can have 300 lbs of sheep wool free to clean and wash, etc., question your sanity!

Check out an article I wrote on spinning dog hair at:
http://www.fortheloveofyarn.com/Issues/Summer06/articles/summer06_features.shtml

I just sent a dog hair heart out last week to my email friend who is a groomer in Massachusetts. Her friends mother's dog had to be put down. She and her friend took the mother out and presented her with the dog hair heart all in a boxed frame and this is what my friend said happened: (Get your tissues out!)

as i placed the box i made for the hart in her lap she said 'O my God is this my Jasmaines fur?"i said yes and she started to cry and huged me for a long time.then she showed me the photo she has that she petts every day of the dog and told me how that was all she had to rember the dog till now. she said she thought that she would never feel the real fur ever agine!!she said u have no idea how good it is to feel her fur agine and to know that now i can pet her any time i want like as if she is still hear sitting on my lap like she always was!!!

Sure does make you feel good being able to make someone happy with a keep sake of their animal!

And now July is almost gone!

My how time flies.

Well, I did a really crazy thing. I accepted 300 pounds of unskirted wool. This is from 40 sheep. I have to go through it all and pull off the bad poopy parts and shake the little tiny pieces out. I think I'll be doing it in my sleep. But you just can't refuse free wool when you love to spin yarn. Here is a picture of my husbands old truck holding the wool in one of those huge grain bags they put over the big oval hay bails.

I've been making a nice llama and wool scarf with my knitting board. Now I will have all kinds of wool (probably forever) to make items with. I'll have to retire to be able to process it all.

June is almost Over

Goodness June is just about to end! Doesn't time fly fast. Vacation is next week, planning on getting lots of spinning, crocheting, knitting, whatever in! I'm working on a llama scarf on a 12 inch adjustable knitting board and the colors of brown are wonderful.

Update

Haven't posted in a while. Been busy doing too many things. One of them was going to the Maine Fiber Frolic which was a blast. A real friend is someone who goes out in the rain with you to a fiber frolic and she doesn't spin yarn! Thank you Rebecca!

I found some wonderful llama and other wools and I got a new cherry spindle that I love.
I also learned how to clip an angora rabbit with sizzors.

Others things going is using my infinity knitting loom with some of my spun yarns and just having way too many projects going.

As soon as my other friends returns my digital camera I will post some pictures.

Some of my furry friends who supply their brushings!

I have a wonderful internet friend from Massachusetts who is a groomer and supplies me with clippings and brushings to make hats, mittens, hearts etc. This one looks like she is holding her own bag of brushings!

Husky Blanket

Here is a picture of a lap ghan I made with husky dog hair that I spun.

Greetings!

Here is my first blog. I want to be able to share my love of spinning and crocheting and using the knifty knitters. I belong to some wonderful groups who are very giving in sharing their talents!

I just got two male angora bunnies a week ago and will be posting pictures. I fnally have my own fiber to spin! I also spin dog hair into momento's, mittens, hats, or scarf's. They are very warm if you live in a cold state in the winter.

Stop in and say Hello. As soon as I get some pictures I'll get some posted.

Kathy
